I LOVE reading challenges! And seem to add more each year. Each year they push me to diversify my reading. A new one this year is The 52 Book Club’s. Although I may have finally hit my limit, not sure I’ll do this many next year!
I am a mood reader, first and foremost, and because of that, I tend to read the same genre/author, etc. While there’s nothing wrong with that, I want to read a wider variety of books, especially by authors whose experience differs from my own. I want to keep growing as a reader and these challenges help me to branch out. Granted, I am very good at using my preferred genres (fantasy, romance, etc) to fulfill prompts, however; when the prompt is: Read a political thriller by a marginalized author (BIPOC, or LGBTQIA+), I have to broaden my scope. These are my way of providing myself with some focus!
I keep track of my challenges on a digital reading journal and through my StoryGraph dashboard.
